Fancy Letters & Text Symbols

There are 86 fancy letter symbols on this page, every one a real Unicode character you can copy with a single click. The most looked-up are Greek Small Letter Delta δ (U+03B4), Greek Small Letter Mu μ (U+03BC) and Greek Small Letter Sigma σ (U+03C3).

Sometimes a plain letter is not enough. This hub collects the letter-like symbols that add style without an image: circled letters and numbers for callouts, superscript and subscript digits for notes and formulas, and the fraction glyphs that keep a recipe or a spec tidy. Each one is a single character, so it copies straight into a heading, a label or a username.

How do you copy and paste fancy letter symbols?

Click the character in the grid above and it goes straight to your clipboard, then paste it with Ctrl+V on Windows or Cmd+V on a Mac. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is installed: these are plain text characters, so they land in a document, a spreadsheet cell, a caption, a username or a line of code and keep working when the font changes.

If you need the code rather than the character, open any symbol's own page from the table below. Each one lists the Unicode code point, the decimal and hex HTML entities, the CSS content escape, the JavaScript escape, the UTF-8 bytes and the Windows alt code where one exists, each with its own copy button.

How do you type fancy letter symbols without copying?

On Windows, the 11 characters here that have an alt code can be typed by holding Alt and entering the digits on the numeric keypad. For anything else, press Win+. to open the emoji and symbol panel, or use Insert then Symbol in Microsoft Word, where you can also type the hex code point and press Alt+X.

On macOS, add the Unicode Hex Input source in Keyboard settings, then hold Option and type the four hex digits of the code point. On ChromeOS and on Linux with GTK or IBus, press Ctrl+Shift+U, type the hex code point and press Enter or space. On the web, the numeric HTML entity in the table above always works, whatever the reader's keyboard.

Frequently asked questions

How do I copy a fancy letter symbol?

Click any glyph in the grid on this page and it is copied to your clipboard instantly. Paste it with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V. Each symbol also has its own page with the code point, HTML entity and alt code.

What are the most used fancy letter symbols?

The ones people look up most in this set are Greek Small Letter Delta δ (U+03B4), Greek Small Letter Mu μ (U+03BC), Greek Small Letter Sigma σ (U+03C3), Greek Small Letter Phi φ (U+03C6) and Circled Digit One ① (U+2460). All of them are listed with their codes in the reference table on this page.

Do fancy letter symbols have Windows alt codes?

11 of the 86 fancy letter symbols here have a documented Windows alt code, for example µ is Alt 0181 or Alt 230; ¹ is Alt 0185; ² is Alt 0178 or Alt 253. Hold Alt, type the digits on the numeric keypad, then release Alt. For everything else, copy the character or use the HTML entity.

Can I use fancy letter symbols in HTML and CSS?

Yes. Every symbol here has a numeric HTML entity that works in any browser, and 47 also have a named entity such as π. In CSS use the escape shown on each symbol page inside a content property, and keep the file saved as UTF-8.

Are these fancy letter symbols real text or images?

They are real Unicode text characters, not images. That means they paste cleanly into documents, captions, usernames and code, and they scale with your font instead of blurring.

Why does a fancy letter symbol show as an empty box?

An empty box or question mark means the font in use has no glyph for that code point, or the text was decoded with the wrong character set. The character itself is still correct, so switching to a font with wider coverage, or serving the page as UTF-8, brings it back.
