Special characters copy and paste, all on one page.
Special characters are the letters, marks and shapes that a standard keyboard leaves out: arrows, currency signs, dashes, mathematical operators, ticks, stars and box drawing. Every one of them is a real Unicode text character, not an image, which is why a symbol copied from this page keeps working when you paste it into a document, a spreadsheet cell, a username, a caption or a line of code, and why it inherits the font, size and colour of whatever surrounds it.
This page holds all 416 of them, grouped by category. Click any glyph to copy it. Where a character has its own page, the code beneath it links through to the Unicode code point, the HTML named and numeric entities, the CSS content escape, the JavaScript escape, the UTF-8 bytes and, where one exists, the Windows alt code. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is installed: the search and the copy both run in your browser.
If a character shows as an empty box on your screen, that is a font gap rather than a broken character, and the guide on tofu and mojibake explains how to tell the two apart. If you would rather type a symbol than copy it, start with Windows alt codes or the Mac shortcuts.
